Achievements | EUMEDCONNECT2 provides a dedicated high-capacity data-communications network for the research and education communities across the southernMediterranean, enabling them to engage in innovative joint projects. Offering a direct link to GÉANT, the pan-European multi-gigabit data network, EUMEDCONNECT2 allows approximately 2 million users in 700 institutions across North Africa and the Middle East to collaborate with their peers at more than 4000 research and education establishments in Europe. |
(Co-)Funding | The European Commission is contributing around 50% (€4m) towards the costs of EUMEDCONNECT2 from its regional European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI South) budget, with the remaining funds being provided by the Mediterranean partners. The project will run until late 2010. |
Partners | The southern and eastern Mediterranean partners of EUMEDCONNECT2 are: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia. They are represented by their NRENs. Other NRENs in the Mediterranean region can collaborate with EUMEDCONNECT2 partners via their direct GÉANT links. |
