Objective(s)
  1. Improving efficiency in delivering multicast services to NRENs, initially through TEN-34, overcoming three shortcomings: manageability, bandwidth usage and scalability.
Achievements Provision of a resilient multicast backbone resolving problems of manageability, bandwidth usage and scalability.
Milestones
  • February 1998: Reorganisation of Mbone started.
  • April 1998: Migration to new Mbone topology on TEN-34 completed.
  • October 1998: TEN-34 Mbone declared a success.
  • April 1999: Preparation for migration of Mbone to TEN-155 - installing and testing new set-up as part of QTP (for details see paper "TEN-155 Multicast" below).
  • November 1999: Multicast tests results in QTP Interim Report (see QTP Document Library).
  • June 2000: Multicast tests results in QTP Final Report (see QTP Document Library).
  • October 2001: Migration to GÉANT infrastructure, culminating in GÉANT Multicast Service.
