Regional Networks


In addition to offering pan-European backbones, DANTE has always offered NRENs access to the wider Internet. As research networking worldwide has developed, DANTE has also been at the forefront of connecting Europe to other world regions. This section includes information on projects and services related to intercontinental connectivity.

EUMEDCONNECT The EUMEDCONNECT project is a pioneering initiative to establish and operate an IP-based network in the Mediterranean region. Countries in the Mediterranean region able to benefit from the EUMEDCONNECT project are Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. 2004 - 2007
EUMEDCONNECT2 EUMEDCONNECT2 is a high-capacity IP-based data-communications network serving the research and education communities in seven countries across the southern Mediterranean. 2008 - 2011
TEIN2 TEIN2 (Trans-Eurasia Information Network) is the first large-scale research and education network for the Asia-Pacific. It connects ten countries in the region, and provides direct connectivity to Europe’s GÉANT2 network. 2004 - 2008
ALICE The ALICE (America Latina Interconectada Con Europa) project was set up in 2003 to develop the RedCLARA network, which provides IP research network infrastructure within the Latin American region and towards Europe. 2003 - 2008
